a Japanese art for creating happiness and promoting healing
Reiki is made up of 2 Japanese words: Rei meaning God's Wisdom or Higher Power and Ki, which means life force energy. So reiki is in essence universal life force energy spiritually guided by a higher power channeled by a trained reiki practitioner for use in healing of self and others, animals, all of nature, and the earth. Reiki is available to anyone of any religious belief or spirituality to receive healing from it and/or to be trained to provide healing with it.
Reiki is used for relaxation, stress reduction, and as a complementary therapy for healing on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. It is most popularly known as a technique used by the laying of hands through use of various hand positions on another as a way to promote healing. The reiki practitioner is given the ability to channel reiki through an attunement, ignition, or placement transferred from teacher to student received during the student's training. Each level of training provides further attunements, ignitions and placements, with the capacity to access higher frequencies of reiki.
Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui (1865-1926) who originally developed and practiced the art form in Japan and opened his first school/clinic in Harajuku Tokyo in April, 1922. He is known for generously providing reiki to many individuals in need, teaching over 2000 people to practice his method of Reiki Ryoho, and for the training of approximately 20 teachers.
